"One of the sexiest wines for drinking now and over the next 10-15 years is undoubtedly the 2000 Palmer. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, the wine has an almost exotic floral nose, soft, undulating tannins, and tremendous opulence and flesh, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and loads of floral notes intermixed with blue and black fruits as well as hints of smoke and incense in its complex aromatics. This wine is drinking beautifully and should continue to do so for up to two more decades."

"This has turned out to be a prodigious Palmer. The saturated purple color offers up sexy, full-bodied, almost masculine notes of roasted meats, blackberries, and creme de cassis intermixed with notions of toast, smoke, and camphor. Only 50% of the production made it into the 2000, a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. The wine is opulent, rich, and full-bodied, with tannin that has become sweeter with age. Its best showing yet, most importantly, has been from bottle. This is a great Palmer that should rival the best of recent vintages, which have all been stunning, as this estate continues to go from strength to strength. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030."

"Ruby in color, truffle, Asian spice, cedar wood, forest floor, tobacco and mineral scents open to a lush, sensuous, plush wine. Rich in texture, concentrated with flavor, this is all about purity, silk and velvet sensations and a long, opulent, plush finish. The wine was made from an unusual blend for Palmer using 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot . The harvest took place from September 21 to October 7."

"Dans les mêmes circonstances, en mars 2004, j'avais placé le 2000 un quart de point au-dessus du 99. Mais là, je les mets à égalité. Compte tenu de la différence de prix, environ 120 euros HT pour le 2000 et 65 euros HT pour le 99, il faut se précipiter sur le 99, si ce n'est déjà fait ! 2000 est sombre et moyennement aromatique comme le 99. Au nez, il est difficile de les distinguer. En bouche, j'ai trouvé le vin très tendre, fondant comme le 99 mais aussi un peu mou. La qualité de la chair est quasi égale, mais une sensation enthousiasmante m'a manqué dans tout le parcours de ce vin quasiment moelleux au palais. Ce jour inférieur au 99, il n'est pas dit que demain il ne passera pas devant. Sa cherté plaide encore plus pour le 99."

"Dunkles Kirschrot-Purpur mit lila Schimmer. Tiefgründiges Edelholzbouquet, Cassis, Brombeeren, Trüffel, Tabak, noch verschlossen, aber kompakte Anlagen zeigend. Ein mundvoll Margaux im Gaumen; rund, üppig, samtig mit einem rot-, blau- und schwarzbeerigen Spiel, wiederum viel Maulbeeren, sehr dicht, die Gerbstoffe zeigen bereits fette Rundungen, die Frucht ist just reif, aber nicht überreif und gibt diesem Palmer so eine klassische Statur und grossartige Charakteristik, schwarze Schokonoten und wieder Brombeeren im lange nachhallenden Finale. Ein Top-Wein, der Parallelen zum Jahrgang 1985 hat, vielleicht aber gar noch in einer perfekteren Form. Auch damals schon kam es zu einem Kopf an Kopf Rennen zwischen Palmer und Château Margaux. Beim Jahrgang 1985 ist es heute mittlerweile der Palmer, welcher kurz vor der Ziellinie ist."

It’s somewhat restrained at first, but opens up like a sexy stripper, revealing power, complexity, and elegance with the typical wonderful Palmer fruit. Notes include spice, cigar box, leather, mint, and forest floor. Just as compelling in the mouth; extremely seductive, refined, generous, and powerful yet delicate at the same time. Very long, consistent, penetrating, fresh finish. Everyone loved this wine."
