"Lovely fragrant nose – floral-sweet, the perfume of Margaux. A textbook Margaux with a hint of Musigny, all delicacy and purity with an undeniable sense of place. Drink: 2018-2035

Jeff Leve

"Floral, tobacco, black cherry, vanilla and kirsch open to a refined and elegant wine, which is surprising due to the high level of Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the vintage’s characteristics. Medium bodied and silky with pure, sweet fruit, this is a very good wine that will offer pleasure young. For the first time in the recorded history of the estate, no Merlot was included in the blend. From a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, with a pH of 3.65. From yields of 22 hectoliters per hectare, the wine represents 38% of the harvest. This is one of the stars of the vintage."

"94–96Pts. Barrel Sample. For the first time, there is no Merlot in this wine. Cabernet Sauvignon is complemented by small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It’s a lovely, aromatic wine, on the delicate side, with sustained black currant fruits and gentle tannins. The aftertaste is deliciously fruity and fine."

"Spectacular for the vintage. This is a wine that I want to buy. The aromas are like rose petals and perfume. Speechless. Palate is full-bodied but refined and beautiful, with perfectly polished tannins. It?s wonderfully balanced. 99% cabernet sauvignon and 1% petit verdot."

Bettane & Desseauve

"17-17,5/20 Punkte [92-93/100] Presque exclusivement produit avec du cabernet sauvignon, le vin montre une pureté aromatique admirable et son corps aérien, plus dessiné que peint, plaira certainement aux esthètes, mais manquera un peu de sensualité pour les autres. Il sera fascinant de suivre son évolution en barrique et, éventuellement, l’enrichissement de sa texture au contact du bois et de l’oxygène."

VINOUS

"The Château Margaux is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot with no Merlot this year due to coulure and was picked between 30 September and 11 October. It represents 38% of the total harvest. It has a very masculine slightly earthy bouquet, a little more introverted than previous vintages, opening with time to reveal its trademark dried violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, silky smooth on the entry. There is not a huge weight in the mouth but it glides or rather flows nicely. It is a seductive Margaux, not a long-term wine for the estate but a success considering the vintage. Tasted April 2014."

Falstaff

"The works are still ongoing here, so we tasted in the Orangerie (apparently the second biggest in France after Versailles). The new 18m long 9m high cellar will be ready for harvest 2014. Thibault Pontallier on 2013: ‘Long winter that lasted til June. Spring never showed up, we had delayed flowering, lost lots of berries, but then faster maturation for what was left. August very dry but less hot than July, so good aromatics. Then explosion of grey rot at end of September. To ensure we got the grapes in quickly, we doubled our harvesters from 150 to 300 pickers overnight, and brought everything in in just 8 days – but around perhaps five days earlier than we would have ideally liked, in keeping with many local estates. Extremely severe selection."
