„A wine that is emerging as a major sleeper of the vintage, the 2001 Léoville Poyferré bursts from the glass with aromas of cassis, ripe blackberries, loamy soil, cigar wrapper and violets. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins, it's an intensely flavored, rather dramatic rendition of the year that has hit its plateau of maturity.“

„Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 10-Year On horizontal. This has a lovely ripe, creamy bouquet with a lot of well subsumed new oak matched by clean, plum and blackberry scented fruit interlaced with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good structure here with notes of blackberry, cedar, a slight ferrous note and truffle towards the classic, foursquare finish. Very conservative but certainly very well made.“

„A very deep garnet core, even more opaque than the millennial wine. The nose is very intense with great definition: blackberry, tobacco, a touch of sea salt and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, blackberries, tobacco, a hint of game and mulberry with a sweet touch of liquorice on the finish. Very well-balanced, still backward and with firm tannic grip on the finish. Very fine. Drink 2012-2030 „

„Sweet notions of plums, black currants, caramel, and spicy oak are provocative and alluring. Subtle but substantial, layered, and textured, with medium body as well as sexy, up-front flavors, low acidity, and ripe tannin, this beauty is among the most evolved and flamboyant of the appellation. Nevertheless, it should age well.“

„Tasting awesome in barrel, this was last tasted in November 2003. Closed at the moment on the nose, with faint aromas of blackberry and briary. The palate is dense, fresh and peppery with ripe red fruits interlaced with liquorice. Firm tannins underneath what is a succulent finish with a touch of "Marmite" lingering on the aftertaste.“

„Showing well and continuing to add weight and depth, the 2001 Leoville Poyferre has a saturated ruby/purple color and an elegant, sweet nose of black cherries, cassis, vanilla, and espresso in a dense, layered, ripe, suave/savory style. The wine should be drinkable relatively early and last for 15 or more years.“

„This St.-Julien is a fine effort for the vintage. The wine exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as sweet black currant fruit that has not yet taken on additional nuances, medium body, excellent purity, and an elegant, moderately weighty style. The tannin is ripe in this well-delineated, pure, finesse-styled Leoville Poyferre.“
