Schon seinem historischen Rang nach ist Château La Lagune im Haut-Médoc ohne Gleichen. Seitdem die schweizer Familie Frey das Weingut erworben hat, wird mit Konsequenz, Zielstrebigkeit und Erfolg daran gearbeitet, La Lagune zum Hort feinster Gerbstoff-Haut-Couture zu machen. Für mich ein weiterer Fixstern im Médoc-Firmament.

Verkostungsnotiz:
Der brillantpurpurne La Lagune entfaltet ein sehr subtiles, dominant feinfruchtiges Dunkelbeerenbouquet mit erfrischender Mineraliennote, floralen Obertönen und dezenter Edelholzwürze. Der Gaumenauftritt ist pure Eleganz, die wohlextrahierte, fleischige Beerenfrucht umhüllt die noblen Tannine in schwungvoller Balance und läßt den Wein in einem animierenden Spannungsbogen zu einem sehr langanhaltenden und finessenreichen Finale von seidiger Souplesse und aristokratischer Noblesse gleiten. Druckvoll authentisch mit dem perfekten Maß an Extraktion ohne jede Kraftverdichtung mit sehr schöner Terroirausprägung.

Proprietress Caroline Frey has elevated the quality at La Lagune since acquiring this estate, and the 2010 is another superb effort as well as one of the better values in Bordeaux. An opaque purple color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of black raspberries, black currants, licorice and subtle smoke and graphite. While uber-concentrated, full-bodied and pure, it retains both elegance and precision as well as a sensational 45-second finish. The suppleness of the tannins and stunning opulence suggest it will drink beautifully for 25+ years."

"A blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the La Lagune already has an expressive bouquet with ripe blackberry, bilberry, cedar and tobacco with good clarity and brightness. The palate is simple classic Cabernet with lovely, savoury-tinged black fruits, good acidity, very harmonious and natural towards the finish. Reserved but great length and persistency in the mouth, this is a great, great La Lagune."

"One of the darkest purples I have seen. No different extraction policy this year and not picked especially late, I was told by the maître de chai. Lightly sweet and minerally on the nose. Easy and yet with odd suppleness. Sweet start. Then a bit turgid and heavy and tough on the end. MASSES of extract for a left-bank wine! Just a bit of a lack of freshness. Tastes pretty hot on the finish. Falls away. I am told it’s 13.9%. Tastes a bit more. 13.9% "

"My best score ever given to the estate en primeur. Dark colour. Delicate, elegant, fruity, ripe and powerful on the nose. La Lagune has never been so fat, so fresh and so vibrantly fruity- its texture almost oily and with refine tannins in spades to weave over and over again a tightly knit and beautiful length. A real stunner - absolutely impossible not to swallow. A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, and 10% petit verdot. Natural alcohol content : 13°8. M. Moulin, the man at the head of the estate, believes such success can be explained by the outstanding quality of the merlot in 2010- superior to that of 2009; quality-wise, the cabernet sauvignon were similar in 2010 and 2009."

"Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Recht offenes Bouquet mit würziger, blaubeeriger Fruchtnote, ein Hauch Bittermandel. Recht fleischig im Gaumen mit sattem Stoff, ausgeglichene Adstringenz, zeigt Muskeln und noch fein mehliges Extrakt. Sehr gutes Potential, kann noch zulegen. (17/20)."

12: "Dunkles Granat mit violetten Reflexen. Viel Cabernetwürze in Form von Brombeeren, Brombeerenstauden. Cassis und Lakritze. Enger Gaumen, etwas strenge Muskeln aber viel Aromatik und auch eine rauchige, fast trüffelhafte Tiefe anzeigend. In der Flasche viel besser als bei Primeur. Er kriegt jetzt einen Punkt mehr und ich hoffe, dass er diese Wertung auch bis zu seiner Reife halten kann."

"(a blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% petit verdot; 13.8% alcohol) Bright dark red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, violet, spicy oak, minerals and dried herbs. Wonderfully tangy and delineated, with excellent thrust and concentration to its blackberry and sweet spice flavors. Still, this comes across as a bit youthfully closed and hiding as much as it's showing today. Finishes long and scented, with substantial but fine tannins. Combining finesse with power, this very impressive La Lagune ought to age very well, and my guess is that it will develop significant complexity."
