Filled with purity, finesse, elegance and authoritative flavor intensity, this 2008 is already drinkable and should continue to evolve for 15+ years."

"15% Petit Verdot.Very dark and shiny. Fresh, spicy nose. Very sweet start - but a little spindly underneath. No enormous concentration but certainly very winning. Round but a little chewy without great depth of ripe fruit. Perfectly nice but not outstanding. A note of green on the finish. A bit skinny after a deceptively sweet start."

"Sattes, dunkles Granat mit violetten Reflexen. Kühles, reduktives Bouquet, schwarze Pfefferkörner, Teernoten, zeigt sich mit tiefschürfender Aromatik. Dichter Gaumen, tolle Konzentration zeigend, Kraft und Fleisch in Massen, im Innern noch gerbig (Vin de Presse?), hat sehr gute Anlagen und viel Potential. (18/20)."
11: "Leicht dumpfes Weinrot. Schwieriges Bouquet, stallig mit fettem, altem Lederton und Schuhcreme. Es ist dann im Gaumen schwer diesen ersten, komischen Naseneindruck zu absorbieren und auch hier kommen schweissig-tierische Aromen zum Vorschein, endet ledrig und spröde. Irgendwie kann das Alles so nicht sein - aber es ist halt leider so."

"Deep ruby-purple. Impressively deep aromas of ripe blackcurrant, balsamic plum and violet soar from the glass, with a strong petit verdot note of violet. Rich blackberry syrup and black cherry flavors display laser-like precision thanks to refreshingly firm acids. Finishes long, with already smooth tannins conveying an impression of volume and flesh. Estate manager and winemaker Caroline Frey told me she would never have thought that a cool vintage such as '08 could have turned out wonderful petit verdot, but the long growing season and fairly windy conditions allowed this notoriously slow- and late-ripening variety to do particularly well in La Lagune's micro-terroir, which is characterized by sandy, gravelly soil, rare in this corner of the Southern Medoc."
