Es ist nun ja bereits einige Jahre her, dass sich der Batailley den Zutritt zur großen Pauillac-Bühne Stück für Stück erarbeitet hat, so dass das Lampenfieber, das ihm anfangs deutlich anzumerken war, nun der routinierten Nonchalance gewichen ist, die seinen Primeurauftritt heuer kennzeichnet.
Ohne Umstände entfaltet dieser von hedonistischer Noblesse beflügelte Pauillac ein dunkelbeeriges Fruchtcrescendo im nasalen Glasvorspiel, das von einer feinen aromatischen Aufwallung von excellentem Maßwerk sekundiert wird.
Der rotbeerige Gaumenfluss legt um einen von dezenter Extraktsüße pointierten Fruchtkern einen Tanninsaum von hedonistischem Zuschnitt und entwickelt ein in dieser Preisklasse sonst nur von Haut Bages Liberal erreichtes Momentum.
Im Batailley 2023 verwirklicht sich quasi die feminine Seite von Pauillac, wenn es darum geht, der Kühle assoziierenden Bodenhaftung wollüstige Leichtigkeit mitzugeben.
Im Pauillac-Konzert für die große Besetzung hat sich der Batailley in diesem Jahr für die erste Geige qualifiziert.

"Soft, round, ripe, creamy, vibrant, black, and red fruits are all over the place here, in the nose, and on the palate. The wine has character, soft, creamy tannins, and the ability to be enjoyed in its youth, but as it ages as well. The wine is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. 13.7% ABV."

"Couleur sombre et pourpre. Nez intense, fin, pur, fruité, subtil. Fond de réglisse. Délicat en entrée de bouche, très aromatique au milieu, le vin évolue juteux et ascendant entre le milieu et la finale. Il gagne alors de la profondeur dans la persistance. C'est joliment fait, doux et précis."

"Beautiful fruit with currants and blackberries, as well as notes of walnuts and chocolate. So much blackberry fruit here. Aromatic. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine tannins on the deep and structured palate. Racy and long finish. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot and 2% petit verdot."

"Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Very densely woven nose with aroma reminiscent of blackcurrants, blackcurrant spurs, ripe blackberries and elderberries, fine toasting, subtle oak. A wine with elegance, purity and great freshness, precision and purity. On the palate well balanced with ripe tannins, finely grained, complemented by juicy fruit quoting the nose, excellent structure and length. Another great Batailley."

The 2023 Batailley was picked September 12 to October 5 at around 49hL/ha, matured in 57% new oak. It has an elegant and understated bouquet compared to the previous vintage, as with all châteaux, well-defined, with a light estuarine influence emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It’s very bright and fresh and there’s plenty of fruit here. A deft, harmonious finish lingers in the mouth. This is an excellent Batailley.
