The Wine Advocate

"This large estate of 131 acres has been run brilliantly by a Belgian family, the Bonnies since their acquisition a number of years ago. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and this is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Lèognan and classified crus. The 2012 is a beauty, with a dense ruby/purple color, a fabulously plush, opulent texture and medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, spicy earth and blueberry. Quite rich, yet light on its feet, this is an absolutely textbook Pessac-Lèognan, with wonderfully velvety tannins. Drink it now, or drink it in 25 years. This is a brilliant wine."

"This Belgian-owned estate has been making brilliant white and red Graves. Another beauty in a more difficult vintage than either 2009 or 2010, the 2012 Malartic Lagraviere is further evidence of how successful this vintage was in Pessac-Leognan. It possesses a dense purple color as well as a sumptuous perfume of creme de cassis, licorice, bay leaf, lead pencil shavings and barbecue smoke. Medium to full-bodied and richly fruity with soft tannin, surprising length and an impressive mid-palate (a rarity in 2012), it should drink well for 15 years. "

"Tasted twice, the Malartic-Lagraviere has light, marine scents on the nose – a touch of brine infusing the light black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins on the entry. It is quite masculine with tobacco-tinged black fruit slightly oppressed by the oak on the finish. This should coalesce nicely throughout its barrel maturation, although I suspect it will need several years in bottle to really settle. Tasted April 2013."

"Truffle, cocoa powder and blackberry scents are easy to find. On the palate, the wine is rich, soft, polished and round with a sweet, ripe and fresh black cherry finish. 90-92 Pts"

René Gabriel's BDX Total

"Tiefes Purpur, satt in der Mitte, Granatschimmer am Rand. Offenes Bouquet, feine Röstnoten, Ledernuancen, dominikanischer Tabak, gibt immer neue Schichten frei, also ein sehr facettenreiches Nasenbild. Im Gaumen fein und elegant. Tolle Jahrgangsleistung ohne über die Grenzen zu gehen."

VINOUS

"The 2012 Malartic-Lagraviere is fabulous. Dark, savory and totally alluring, the 2012 is super-expressive at this stage. Chalk, gravel, smoke, cured meats, tobacco and wild herbs flesh out in a deep, substantial wine that should drink well for the next two decades-plus. With time in the glass, the 2012 turns darker, rich and more layered. Readers won't want to miss this delicious Pessac Léognan from Malartic-Lagravière. The 2012 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Michel Rolland is the consultant."

Falstaff

"Violet colour, lovely en primeur sparkle. Slightly subdued on the nose due to high alcohol, but there is plush plummy fruit, go od texture on the attack, with a fresh clean almost minty start to the wine. The smooth texture holds through on the mid - palate also, making the wedge of fruit and tannins navigable. These tannins are firm, astringent and should soften very nicely. One to age, not one of the easiest on the table to see as an early drinker, but I like the astrigent taninns you have to battle through at this stage, and there's fruit to keep things well in balance. 92 / 17.75. Highly recommended. Drink 2020 - 2035."
