La Parde de Haut Bailly ist der Zweitwein von Château Haut-Bailly; bereits seit 1967 wird er abgefüllt, seit 1979 unter dem Namen La Parde de Haut-Bailly.Da die Weinberge auch Haut-Bailly regelmäßig partiell neu bepflanzt werden, um ein kontinuierliches Durchschnittsalter der Reben zu erhalten, entschied man sich schon sehr früh, den Most der jüngeren Reben (und den aus der Assemblage überschüssigen Teil der Ernte) für den Zweitwein einzusetzen.

La Parde de Haut Bailly – Chocolate, cassis and tobacco aromas, soft textures and a sweet boysenberry finish are what consumers can look forward to with this easy to like wine. The wine is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with 20% Cabernet Franc. According to Veronique Sanders, part of the reason for this wines success is that it includes both young Merlot vats that reached 15.5% alcohol. Yet there is no heat in the finish.

This contains two batches of Merlot that reached 16% alcohol! It is a blend of 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, this has a very ripe Merlot-dominated bouquet with dark cherries, a touch of date and a hint of liquorice, although I would like a little more delineation. The palate is very powerful but soft in texture. It does not quite have the delineation and harmony, with just a little dryness on the finish. Too heady for me, but others may get a kick out of it. Tasted March 2011.
