"Somewhat closed and monolithic, this deep plum/ruby/purple-colored wine has notes of blackberry, chocolate, espresso, and vanilla in the tight but emerging aromatics. It is medium-bodied, elegant, pure, but may not quite have the depth, sweetness, and overall volume of the 2001. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019."

"This offering still displays elevated levels of aggressive new oak, but there is so much concentration that it is unquestionably the richest, most complete Trotte Vielle I have tasted. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by chocolatey, blackberry, and black currant fruit, full body, moderate tannin, and a pure, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018."

"This is the finest Trotte Vieille proprietor Philippe Casteja has yet produced. Over the last few years, Casteja has been making strong efforts to improve the quality of not only Trottevielle, but also his other estates, particularly Batailley in Pauillac and Domaine l'Eglise in Pomerol. The elegant, concentrated 2000 Trotte Vielle displays a dense ruby/purple color in addition to subtle notions of sweet new oak intermixed with cassis, black cherry liqueur, and licorice. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with beautifully integrated acidity and tannin. A blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 47% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Undoubtedly, the superlative quality of Cabernet Franc in 2000 has given this offering more complexity. Kudos to Monsieur Casteja. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020."
