„The 2000 Beausejour Duffau is sullen and muted on the nose at the moment, touches of smoke and graphite emerging with time, very pure but still reluctant to show the chutzpah of the 2005 or 2009. The palate is crisp on the entry, silky and smooth with black cherries, black pepper and tobacco. It remains a broody bugger, but you cannot help falling for its saturnine personality. Keep it in the cellar.“

„I often lament the fact that only the 1990 and 2009 are wines that fully showcase this extraordinary terroir. However, the 2000 is no “Ugly Betty,” so to speak. It showed extremely well in the tastings, with the tell-tale notes of flowers, crushed rock, blueberry and camphor well-displayed. Full-bodied, rich, long, and just beginning to shed its cloak of tannin, this is quite an impressively endowed Beausejour-Duffau that can be drunk in 1-2 years or cellared for another 25 or more.“

„A deep garnet core. The nose is perhaps a little broody at first, reluctantly unfurling to reveal scents of blackberries, bilberry, espresso and a touch of sous-bois. The bouquet remains sulky despite encouragement. The palate is masculine and tannic, tight lipped with notes of blackberry, dried blood and a salty tang towards the finish. This is a “grumpy” millennial Saint Emilion, but it deserves patience because I think it will really come into its own in the next decade. Perhaps I was over-optimistic when I tasted this blind a few years ago, but I have faith in this Duffau. Drink 2012-2025.“

„Tasted blind amongst other Saint Emilion 2000's this really stood out, beating Cheval Blanc which preceded it. Deep garnet core. A lovely complex nose with black fruits, fig and plum. Sublime. A huge dense blackcurrant palate, very concentrated, tannic with fine acidity. Lots of well-integrated oak though it seems to be closing up. A real "vin de garde". I was surprised when I found out what this was. Another 1990 perhaps? Drink from 2010.“

„Undeniably the most complete Beausejour Duffau since the mythical 1990, the black/purple-colored 2000 exhibits a port-like bouquet of licorice, blackberry liqueur, minerals, blueberries, camphor, and melted asphalt. Medium rather than full-bodied, it has a multi-layered texture in addition to gorgeous ripeness. While it is not as rich or super-concentrated as the colossal 1990, the 2000 still merits significant interest. Pure, complex, and reasonably priced, it will be at its apogee between 2013-2025+.“
