"The grand vin has a fine bouquet, not complex but clean and fresh with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, nicely integrated oak. It needs a little more delineation although it does appear to gain clarity with encouragement. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, perhaps a little more rustic than usual but with good weight. Fine red fruit, linear and masculine, this deserves two or three years in bottle after release. Tasted April 2014."

"From a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Caberent Franc, the wine reached 13% alcohol. With yields of 32 hectoliters per hectare, the Grand Vin was made from 39% of the crop. Lead pencil, cedar and blackberry notes open to a medium-bodied wine made with a much-needed light touch. This vintage represents a lighter expression of Rauzan Segla, which will be drinkable early.

"The 2013 Rauzan-Ségla is one of the brawnier wines I tasted in Margaux. Black cherries, plums, smoke, tobacco and menthol wrap around the palate. Savory and floral notes appear later, adding aromatic nuance. The 2013 impresses for the purity of its fruit and its overall balance. All the signatures are in place, but in miniature, which suggests the 2013 is likely to be a medium term drinker. The blend is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Taste twice."

"Medium to full intensity with coffee, even some chocolate on the nose. Good lift, this has the tannins and acidity wall that you want en primeur. But of the triumverate, rich joyous fruit is missing. Still, this is again one of the better ones in terms of a representative en primeur sample that just might develop and fatten over ageing - kind of the point of this exercise. Highly Recommended. Drink 2022-2036.
