Auch wenn man dies in Schiffsdingen ja so nicht sagen würde, meine ich, Chateau Beychevelle habe einen Lauf, besonders seit der Einweihung des neuen Kellers vor ein paar Jahren. Anders als sein Name vermuten läßt, steht Beychevelle also voll im Wind, so dass das „baisse voile“, das in seiner Bezeichnung steckt, kaum selbstreferentiell sein kann.
Nimmt man die Gesamtheit der Saint-Juliens 2020, dann müssen selbst höherklassifizierte Gewächse die Segel streichen in Anbetracht der mit nobler Beiläufigkeit zu Glase getragenen distinguierten Klasse, mit der diese Stilikone der Eukalyptusfinesse, deren Chanel N° 5 einen Hauch von Minze assoziiert, den Gaumen in einem Sturm schwereloser Transzendenz erobert. In einem Tanninkostüm von edelstem Zuschnitt kreist der Beychevelle in hohem Momentum mit der taktilen Anmut seidiger Umarmung im Gaumen und setzt dabei fortwährend feine Schübe mineralischer Frische frei.
Leicht macht es der Beychevelle dem Verkoster nicht, wenn man aber mit aufmerksamer Sympathie seinem Fließen lauscht, mag es einem ergehen wie einst dem Fährmann Vasudeva in Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha.

"Smoke, grilled almond on the nose, even a touch of rubber from an edge of reduction. This has depth to black chocolate and bilberry fruit, it is well balanced and seductive. Enjoyable, it´s pretty broad shouldered but it sits well within the successful run of vintages at Beychevelle. Drinking Window 2029 - 2044"

"Couleur sombre, intense et pourpre. Nez très aromatique, au fruité mûr et subtil. Caressant en entrée de bouche, très savoureux au milieu, avec le moelleux particulier propre à ce cru à Saint Julien, qui lui donne beaucoup de charme chaque année, le vin s’étire parfumé, sur une trame tannique élégante et une bonne longueur. Assemblage : 51 % cabernet sauvignon, 45 % merlot, 4 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool : 13°4 – pH : 3,8 – IPT : 78. Rendement : 47 hl/ha."

"The 2020 Beychevelle opens with the most exotic bouquet imaginable. Wild flowers of all sorts, spice, lavender and inky dark fruit all saturate the palate. As always, Beychevelle is an overt, flamboyant wine, but all of the elements are so well out together. The 2020 is sexy, alluring and impossible to resist. Time in the glass brings out redder tonalities of fruit along with sweet floral notes that add striking inner perfume. Even as a barrel sample, I am so tempted to just drink it."

"Ein sehr klarer, frischer Duft: Holunder, Kirschwasser, Moos und Waldmeister, nussiges Holz. Sandelholz. Auch etwas Lakritze und Veilchenpastille. Cremiger Auftakt, gut und mit Augenmaß extrahierte Gerbstoffe: reif, mürb, dennoch frisch, in gut zum Körper passender Menge. Präsente Gaumenfrucht, reife Säure. Ein Wein, der Präzision und Harmonie ausstrahlt."
