"An excellent dark plum color is followed by scents of tobacco, cedar, black currants, and earth. There is good ripeness, medium to full body, smoky, herb-tinged flavors, and fine length. The tannin is firm, but not excessive. This 1998 is tasting significantly better from bottle than it did during its elevage. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2017."

"Revealing a dark intense ruby/purple color as well as high tannin and a compressed texture, this structured Pauillac is hard to decipher. My guess is that the tannin is excessive for the amount of fruit and concentration it possesses. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2012."

"Dark purple core. Nose is closed. A bit thin. Moderate tannins with dry raisiny fruits and cedar. Seems a bit hollow and short at this stage. I prefer the 1997 at the moment. Tasted May 1999. (No tasting note was provided in Issue 122. We have instead included the text of the tasting note from the 1999 Neal Martin’s Wine Journal)"
