"The 2021 Clos du Marquis is a lovely wine, offering up aromas of cherries, burning embers, dark berries, loamy soil and truffle, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's rather deep and serious, reflecting low yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare and a blend dominated by 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 19% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc in supporting roles. Lest anyone underestimate it on the strength of the challenging vintage alone, by the numbers it contains a higher concentration of polyphenols than either the 2019 or 2020 vintages. Tasted three times."

"Supple, ample and generous, this is a lovely Clos du Marquis with an intensity and liveliness straight away, the effects of strong selection giving this a concentrated core. Tannins are prominent but fine and velvety, coating the mouth in a chalky, dry texture but ripe not astringent. I love the fruit forwardness and intention here, but this also has tension and linearity, driving in one straight line from start to finish with a vein of minerality underneath - liquorice and graphite giving a saltiness on the tongue. Feels confident and sauve."

The wine is fresh, round, forward, sharp, and bright, with a cool touch of minty herbs on the backend that adds to the red fruits. The wine was made from a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc. 13.46% ABV. Drink from 2025-2039."

Ripe red and black fruits, notes of gravelly earth and graphite, supple tannins, and terrific overall balance all define this rock-solid Saint-Julien, which will benefit from just short-term cellaring. It's another impressive wine from this estate."

Si le parcellaire diffère, la qualité de la vinification et de l’élevage sont absolument semblables et l’individualité de caractère nous semble à nouveau évidente avec l’appellation. Le corps strict et un peu résineux de grands cabernets s’harmonise par un développement plus précoce du fruit (fruits rouges plus que noirs). Remarquable milieu de bouche réglissé. "The 2021 Clos du Marquis is a dark, sumptuous Saint-Julien. Strong Cabernet inflections give the Clos du Marquis its strong aromatic presence. Crushed flowers, spice, mint, tobacco and incense all reveal themselves with some coaxing. There are some slight rough edges in the tannins, but hopefully élevage can polish those. The 2021 is a fine and promising Clos du Marquis."

"The 2021 Clos du Marquis was picked from September 24 to October 9 and matured in 50% new oak. There was just a little coulure affecting the Merlot this year. This has quite a tight nose that demands more coaxing from the glass than its peers, the blackberry, mint, juniper and pencil box aromas emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins on the entry, and curiously Pauillac-like in style thanks to the graphite seam that runs from start to finish. Shorter than the 2019 or 2020 (as expected) but quite serious and deserving of some time in a cool, dank cellar."

"Assemblages réalisés. Touche de réduction avec une pointe d'iris, de violette, de graphite et de réglisse. Bouquet frais et délicat dans sa profondeur. Bouche charnue, des tanins structurants et assez massifs mais enrobants avec de la puissance, du fond et de la matière qui permettent au vin de tenir la distance. Superbe finale à la fois suave et longue. Très belle bouteille avec un potentiel de garde exceptionnel pour le millésime. Bravo ! "
