The Wine Advocate

"The 2016 Le Crock is a blend of 46% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. It has an intense bouquet, showing quite noticeable new oak compared to some of its peers although there is a modest 30%. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin. This feels grainy in texture, one of the Left Bank wines that could be a doppelgänger for 2010, with a grippy, slightly masculine finish. Hopefully, it will develop more flesh during its élevage."

Decanter Magazine

"From the Léoville Poyferré stable, this is beautifully fresh, rich and tight. An excellent wine, extremely juicy and controlled with a lovely extraction. It has a high IPT of 94 which comes across as a juicy support system for the fruit. From a blend of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Drinking Window 2023 - 2040"

"Spicy cassis with rich textures and cushy, polished, sumptuous tannins, this one gives you floral notes and curvy, salaciously juicy fruits with a hint of licorice in the finish. The wine was produced from 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot."

Jean-Marc Quarin

"Le meilleur jamais fait ! Couleur sombre, intense et belle. Nez fruité, frais et mûr. Bouche à la fois charnue et puissante, savoureuse et surtout éclatante de fruits avec la tannicité la plus enveloppée que je lui connaisse. C’est long et particulièrement bon. Assemblage : 46 % merlot, 40 % cabernet sauvignon, 8 % cabernet franc, 6 % petit verdot."

"Barrel Sample. Made by the winemaking team of Léoville-Poyferré in Saint-Julien, this wine is always elegant. While it does have firm tannins, it is the rounded black fruits which are the standout. It will be ready after 2025."

"Tiefes, aromatisches, würziges, fruchtiges Bouquet, Cassis, Tabak, fein Eukalyptus, Lakritze, Graphit, Edelhölzer. Dichter, kraftvoller Gaumen mit dunkler Frucht, viel gutem Tannin, gut bourgeoiser, muskulöser Struktur, dichter, kräftiger, vielfältiger Aromatik, langer, dichter Abgang."

VINOUS

"The 2016 Le Crock has a crisp, pure, focused bouquet replete with brambly red fruit, orange zest and light spicy notes; the aromatics here convey plenty of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, quite rounded tannins for a Saint Estèphe. One of the more forward examples tasted from the appellation, yet well balanced. A smooth Szechuan pepper note lingers on the aftertaste."

Neal Martin 89 Punkte (Jan. 2019)

"The 2016 Le Crock is a very pretty, fruity wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Bright red cherry and plum fruits are nicely pushed forward in this mid-weight, gracious Saint-Estèphe. All the elements are very nicely balanced. Floral overtones add to the wine's considerable appeal. In 2016, Le Crock is pliant and supple, both of which make it an absolute joy to drink now and over the next handful of years."

Antonio Galloni 92 Punkte (Jan. 2019)

"The 2016 Le Crock feels a little pinched on the nose at first, but it is well focused, delineated and delivers plenty of blackberry and cedar scents laced with cigar box. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, well judged acidity, quite fleshy towards the second half with wonderful precision on the finish. Quality winemaking at work here from the Poyferré team. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London."

Neal Martin 90 Punkte (Okt. 2018)

"The 2016 Le Crock is deep, pliant and seductive. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched throughout, with plenty of black cherry, plum and gravel character. The clay-rich terroir and the high percentage of Merlot combine to make a Saint-Estèphe of striking texture and depth. Because of the small berries of the Cabernet and the lower production of that grape, the 2016 blend includes more Merlot."
