The Wine Advocate

„The 2018 Cos Labory has a deep garnet-purple color, bursting from the glass with bold notes of warm cassis, blackberry compote and Morello cherries, plus suggestions of roses, unsmoked cigars and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate has a very sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the rather delicately played fruit, finishing long and earthy/minerally. The structure stands out a little now, which I enjoy, but for those preferring softer, rounder expressions, give this a good 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it over the next 15-20 years.“

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cos Labory is a little reduced to start, unfurling to display notions of baked blackcurrants, blackberry preserves and boysenberries with touches of sautéed herbs, smoked meats and tar. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, fine-grained frame and background freshness supporting the elegant black fruit and savory layers, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

Decanter Magazine

"A chewy, well structured, full and deep Cos-Labory where the juiciness steals up on you slowly and surely. This is elegant but rich, and it totally delivers on the potential of the vintage in the appellation. A great year for this château."

"Dark crimson. Thick, sweet and high toned. Then a bit too tarted up. You would certainly enjoy this wine, provided you didn't taste it alongside another 2016 from the same appellation. Lots here and pretty supple. Just a tiny hint of green at the end."

Jeff Leve

„Medium bodied, fresh, bright, lifted red fruits, spice and earth pop up in the nose easily. The wine has energy, elegance and loads of red currants, red plums and herbs on the palate. The finish delivers more of those gorgeous red, sweet, chewy fruits. This is a big step up from previous vintages. I am liking it a lot!“

„Medium-bodied, round, forward and with a nice level of ripeness to the fruit and accompanied by spice and tobacco leaf, the wine really works well with this vintage.“

Jean-Marc Quarin

"A medium to full-bodied red with polished, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Tight and structured. A little lean but this should develop nicely."

"Barrel Sample. This wine is dense and balanced, with a fine structure of dusty tannins and ripe fruit tones. Let this solid, fruity wine age over the medium term."

Jeb Dunnuck

"Lots of rich red and black currants, tobacco, savory spice, and new leather notes emerge from the 2018 Château Cos Labory, a medium-bodied Saint-Estèphe with terrific overall balance, ripe, velvety tannins, lots of character, and outstanding length. It's well worth cellaring and drinking any time over the coming 15+ years."

VINOUS

"The 2018 Cos Labory is terrific. Pliant, deeply layered and full of complexity, the 2018 has a lot going on. Grilled herbs, cured meats, smoke, licorice and dark fruit all flesh out in this deep, super-expressive Saint-Estèphe. In 2018, Cos Labory is a wine of real character and distinction. The natural concentration of the year, along with a higher percentage of Petit Verdot than normal, result in a Cos Labory with intense fruit and equally huge tannins. Here, too, yields are down 50% at 25 hectoliters per hectare as opposed to 50. The blend is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Tasted two times."
