"Catherine Papon-Nouvel, the owner/winemaker at Petit Gravet Aîné, owns this 1.2-hectare vineyard situated just west of Château Soutard atop the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The 40-year-old vineyard is certified organic. The blend is usually around 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot. Very deep purple black in color, the 2019 Clos St Julien sings of crushed black cherries, fresh blackberries and warm plums with touches of lavender, fertile loam, clove oil and tree bark plus a waft of unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate has densely packed layers of black fruits and earthy notions, solidly structured by firm, rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick."
