Château Godeau liegt an der Südflanke des Kalksteinplateaus, der sog. côte-sud von St. Emilion, und befindet sich daher in solch illustrer Nachbarschaft wie der von Rochebelle und eben auch Tertre Roteboeuf.

Während wir den Godeau im Jahr 2009 kauften, weil James Suckling ihn so unverschämt gut bewertet hatte, finden Sie Godeau 2016 in unserer Offerte, weil er, besonders in Ansehung des Preises, unverschämt gut ist. Wer es im Konzert solcher Nachbarn wie Tertre Roteboeuf oder auch La Mondotte schafft, sich eine eigene, distinkte Stimme zu verschaffen - zu einem Preis, für den man bei den voisins parvenus noch nicht einmal ein Piffchen bekäme, dem sollte die Aufmerksamkeit besonders derjenigen sicher sein, die Bordeaux für eine überteuerte Angelegenheit halten.
Reichhaltig in der dominant dunkelbeerigen Frucht, saftig frisch, mit feiner Mineralienunterlegung, druckvoller Attacke und einem animierend aromatischen Finale, ist der Godeau 2016 der Saint Emilion für alle Tage.

There is superb structure here, fine acidity, plenty of black fruit laced with minerals and a vibrant, vivid finish with superb salinity. Do not overlook this little gem; it would not surprise me if it lands towards the upper end of by bracketed score."

"Le meilleur jamais fait ! Couleur sombre, intense et violine. Nez intense, fruité, puissant et épicé. Bouche ample à l’attaque se développant très fruitée, savoureuse sur un toucher noble avec du goût et beaucoup de fruits. Finale à la tannicité enrobée et plus charnue que de coutume. Très bel Outsider !"

"The 2016 Godeau is dark, virile and imposing. Layers of intense dark fruit fill out the wine's broad, ample frame. Clay-rich soils yield a Saint-Émilion built on breadth and textural resonance. Super-ripe dark cherry, chocolate, leather, licorice, smoke and spice infuse the deep, resonant finish. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Julien Lavenu consults. Tasted two times."

"The 2016 Godeau is plush, dark and inviting. Dark fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice and savory herb notes flesh out in this ample, creamy Saint-Émilion. This is an especially resonant style. Much of that can be attributed to clay-rich soils that give the wine volume. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Julien Lavenu is the consulting winemaker."

"The 2016 Godeau is owned by the granddaughter of Mme. Gasqueton, the late owner of Calon-Ségur, and located just behind Troplong Mondot. This has a very rich bouquet - perhaps excessively so – that seems to have lost a bit of definition. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit laced with tar and cedar, but the finish feels a little labored compared to its peers. I like this out of barrel, but I wonder if the élevage has pushed it too far."
