"A gorgeous wine of grace, elegance, and power, this youthful 2000 will benefit from another five years of cellaring. It appears to have 25 more years of life ahead of it. A deep ruby/purple color is just beginning to lighten at the edges. The bouquet offers up scents of cedar wood, melted licorice, black currants, blackberries, caramel, and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, and pure with low acidity as well as formidable tannins in the long finish, the 2000 should rival vintages such as 2005, 2006, and 2009."

"I tend to underestimate Vieux-Chateau-Certan. The strong performance of this 2000 offers persuasive evidence that I am consistently too strict in my evaluations of this elegant but authoritatively flavored Pomerol. The 2000 is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is an elegant wine.. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by an exceptional bouquet of blackberries, cassis, spice box, licorice, and minerals. Deep and full-bodied, with great intensity, tremendous purity, low acidity, and high tannin, this is a majestic Vieux-Chateau-Certan that will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030."

"An utterly profound Lynch-Bages, this wine continues to remind me of a hypothetical blend of the 1990 and 1989. Interestingly, when I asked Jean-Michel Cazes to rank his top four vintages of Lynch-Bages, he ranked the 1989 first, followed by three vintages that he said were essentially equivalent in quality - 1990, 1996, and 2000. The 2000 Lynch-Bages exhibits a dense purple color, loads of glycerin and extract, big, muscular, sweet creme de cassis notes, with hints of new saddle leather, earth, and tobacco leaf. The 2000 is forceful yet plush, with a thick, juicy, succulent mid-palate, ripe tannin, and a long, layered finish. I know it will be tempting to pull corks on this wine in its youth, but it really will not hit its stride for 7-10 years and will last for at least 25. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025."

"Delikates, feingliedriges Bouquet; zart hölzerne Note, darunter würziger Cabernet Franc, Kirschen, Lorbeeren, dominikanischer Tabak – eher kühl in seiner Ausstrahlung (vom Cabernet Sauvignon?). Im Gaumen zart und fein; wunderschöne Balance, helle Malznoten im pflaumigen Extrakt. Wie immer ein sehr femininer, delikater Pomerol mit viel Finessen."

03: "Dunkles Granat mit aufhellendem Rand. Verrücktes, reif wirkendes Bouquet; viel Cassis, Schokolade und eine Pralinensüsse sowie geröstete Nüsse und zartes Vanille. Seidiger Gaumen; ganz fein und schmelzend, ein Leichtgewicht mit Finessen sondergleichen, wird sich eher schnell entwickeln. (18/20)."

15: "Er war in einer Blindserie gegen Evangile und Hosanna 2000 und hatte leider nur wenig Chancen. Er war einfach zu diskret und hatte zu wenig Druck. (18/20)."

18: "Sattes Purpur, im Innern immer noch violette Reflexe aufweisend. Wunderbares, beruhigendes Bouquet mit viel blauen und schwarzen Beeren, dann findet man Veilchentöne, Lakritze und schwarzen Pfeffer. Er ist immer noch sehr präsent und strahlt erstaunlich viel Frische aus. Also findet man da immer noch gewisse Primäraromen. Im Gaumen feinstoffig, wunderbar ausgeglichen, auch da immer noch viel Frucht vermittelnd. Mit denselben Aromen wie in der Nase. Ein Mustermass an Eleganz und Harmonie. Genau so ist Vieux Château Certan, nicht spektakulär, sondern eine Meisterklasse für sich. Die Muse des Pomerols welche dich streichelt. Dieser Wein ist am Anfang der Genussreife und hält noch 30 Jahre lang locker durch. (19/20)."

"(70% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon) Moderately saturated ruby-red. More merlot-dominated aromas of raspberry, plum, espresso, mocha and game. Silky, lush and thick, with compelling flavors of boysenberry, bitter cherry and dark chocolate. Complex, smoky, lively wine, finishing with strong torrefaction notes and lovely subtle persistence. The merlot component here goes through its malolactic fermentation in barriques."
