"The 2016 Lafleur Gazin is a blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc this year. It has a simple, slightly earthy, smoky bouquet that is not powerful, but displays commendable detail. The palate is a little leafy on the entry with a grainy texture, a more masculine and "correct" Pomerol, nicely balanced and gently gripping on the finish. There is a touch of austerity here, but not leanness, and I suspect that it will fill out a little once in bottle. This is better than the 2015 last year, although it is not a long-term proposition."

"A dense, powerful wine, the 2014 Lafleur-Gazin is terrific. The aromatics alone are beguiling, with distinct Cabernet Franc overtones, even though there is only 5% of Franc in the blend. Mocha, sweet herbs, tobacco, anise and leather build in the glass as the 2014 shows off its creamy, enveloping personality. The 2014 is obviously an infant, but its textural finesse and complex bouquet are incredibly enticing. The tannins will need to soften, but I can't imagine that will be an issue here. In 2014 the blend is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. "
