"The 2016 Clos Marsalette is dark, powerful and juicy. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this fleshy, succulent Pessac Léognan from Stephan von Neipperg. Black cherry, plum, slate, violet and licorice infuse the creamy, resonant finish. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 develops more aromatic nuance over time. At this stage, it’s all about dense, almost primary, fruit. Tasted three times."

"The 2016 Clos Marsalette is super-expressive and delicious today. Savory herb, cedar, tobacco, menthol, licorice, rose petal and wild cherry all run through this nuanced, inviting wine. Aging has brought out an aromatic quality the wine did not show en primeur. Medium in body and gracious, the 2016 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Tasted two times."

"The 2016 Clos Marsalette was picked from October 4 to 18 and bottled in June 2018. It has a tightly wound, quite broody bouquet that demands encouragement from the glass. There is lovely pure fruit here, but it prefers to remain in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with an earthy, smoky opening and notes of blackberry and mulberry laced with dark chocolate and five-spice. The finish feels grippy but just a little stern at the moment. Give this three to five years in bottle."
