The Wine Advocate

"From Helene Garcin, this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot displays classic tobacco leaf and smoky barbecue notes along with rich black currants and crushed rocks in a medium to full-bodied, seductive, attractively up-front style. Some Asian plum sauce is also noticeable in this complex, evolved and delicious wine, which can be drunk over the next 10-15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage."

"Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with dense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and tobacco on the nose that unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. There is a lot of extraction here, but it is in tune with the acidity and the structured finish has plenty of vibrant red fruit and energy to see it through to the long term. Tasted January 2014."

"This estate is well-worth following given the fact that is always a realistic value and in most top vintages an over-achiever as well. Owned by the Garcin family, the 2010 Haut-Bergey (from a vineyard near Haut-Bailly) is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot (unusual for this area). Possessing a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of creosote, charcoal, tobacco leaf, black currants and cherries, this sleeper of the vintage is opulent and luscious with a multilayered texture. Surprisingly forward with excellent freshness and depth, no hard edges, and a heady finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2011-23."

"A blend of 65% and 70% Merlot, the Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very attractive bouquet, very pure with blackberry sorbet, raspberry and wild strawberry. Good definition. The palate is full-bodied with a svelte, silky smooth texture, good acidity, very harmonious with admirable purity. Caressing on the finish. I think that this has great potential."

Jeff Leve

"Blending 65% Cabernet Sauvignon with 35% Merlot produced a wine filled with licorice, smoke, oak and cassis. This suave, round, soft textured wine ends with earthy, blackberry and coffee. "

Wine Spectator

"Offers lush fruit, with dark raspberry and boysenberry notes, good, graphite-laced structure and bright acidity weaving throughout. The long, smoldering finish features an appealing licorice snap and violet profile. Best from 2015 through 2025."

VINOUS

"Pale straw. Clean floral nose offers hints of beeswax, white peach and gooseberry, complicated by passion fruit and melon. Bright and energetic on entry, with a strong lemony nuance to the gooseberry and peach flavors. Finishes long and clean, but with mounting, oak-derived tannins."

Falstaff

"Rich, well textured, some liquorice notes. Alcohol is high, but the tannins are well knitted, and the acidity high enough to deftly catch the alcohol, like a pitchers glove. Would prefer a lighter finish, but it's good. Drink 2018-2030."
