The Wine Advocate

"The 2020 Poujeaux is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, harvested from 17th September to 2nd October and weighing in with an alcohol of 13.5% and a pH of 3.89. It is being aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 33% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sings of crushed red and black currants, black raspberries and bay leaves with touches of tobacco and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate is a little skinny and chewy at this nascent stage, finishing on an herbal note."

Decanter Magazine

"Good depth of colour to the fruit, deep plum, with attractive fresh fruit aromatics. Confident tannic frame with acidity and black fruits - all the elements to ensure it will age. There isn't the richness of the fruit that you will find in 2016 but it is full of personality and easy to recommend. One of the more successful wines from Moulis in the vintage. Lots of tannins, and a point of bitterness on the close of play that needs to be carefully handled during ageing. A yield of 34hl/ha."

"Cask sample. Dense black fruit with firm but floury tannin. Austere fruit, tightly buttoned. Finishes with tart blackcurrant fruit, and a lingering bitter aftertaste. Very much the old school of bordeaux, which is nice in a way, although it is very different to many of the plush-fruited 2020s."

"Full bottle 1,342 g. Cask sample taken 6 April. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot.
Very dark core with purplish rim. Dark, savoury and a little bit oaky on the nose and the same character on the palate. The fruit is there at the core but there is absolutely no fruit sweetness until right at the very end, just dark and refined. Firm, slightly thick, chewy tannins. A little unyielding for now but harmonious."

Jeff Leve

"On the fruit side indeed, as all the sweet, ripe blackberries and cassis are starting to show their essence along with tobacco, smoke, herbs and wet earth. Round, focused and forward, with plenty of sweet, soft fruit in the finish, this is a strong vintage for Poujeaux. The wine blends 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot."

Jean-Marc Quarin

"A dense, layered red with blackberry, tar, asphalt and spice character. Medium-to full-bodied with wonderful, polished and creamy tannins. Chewy and fine. Potentially one of the best in a long time."

Jeb Dunnuck

"Another surprisingly concentrated Moulis, the 2020 Château Poujeaux sports a dense ruby/purple color as well as terrific cassis and black cherry fruits, notes of tobacco and cedar, medium to full body, and a dense, layered mid-palate. It's terrific and one of the more age-worthy, serious wines I've tasted from this address, while still having plenty of up-front appeal. Tasted twice."

VINOUS

"The 2020 Poujeaux is jam-packed with inky dark fruit, graphite, cloves, lavender, licorice and a kiss of new French oak that will almost certainly integrate during élevage. Plush, engaging and flat-out delicious, with silky, perfectly ripe tannins and superb balance, this is looking to be another superb wine from the Cuvelier family."

Antonio Galloni 90-92 Punkte

"The 2020 Poujeaux was picked from September 17 to October 2 and matured in one-third new oak. It has a broody nose initially, gradually opening to display blackberry, brine and crushed rock aromas, certainly quite mineral-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and fine grip, though the tannins are not aggressive. There is a hint of dark chocolate toward the finish, but maybe I’m seeking a little more on the aftertaste. This should gain more length during its élevage. Very fine."

Yves Beck

"Bouquet fruité et frais. Notes de baies noires et de poivre. Caractère juteux en bouche. Un peu moins dense que d’habitude. Belle expression fruitée en finale. Un vin sapide, juteux doté d’une tension rafraîchissante et de tannins bien intégrés. Finale fruitée."

Falstaff

"Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Mit einem Hauch von Nougat unterlegte reife Pflaumenfrucht, schwarze Kirschen, ein Hauch von Kardamom. Saftig, elegant, reife Herzkirschen, frisch strukturiert, mineralisch und anhaftend, gutes Reifepotenzial."
