"A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, matured in 55% new oak (the same as in 2005), this has a light, fresh nose of black cherries, wild strawberry and a hint of ripe blueberry developing with time. It may lack a little definition and there remains some vanillary oak to be resolved, but there is an attractive purity to it. The palate is medium-bodied with some chewy tannins, good backbone and weight, what you might call a “solid” Margaux with a firm, dense finish of blackberry, raspberry and cedar. Of course, very primal, almost surly in fact, so I would give this another 4-5 years in bottle. But this is certainly one of the superior 2004 Margaux wine. Drink 2011-2020."
