Im Schatten jüngster Biodynamiepublizität vollzieht sich das einzigartige Aufblühen des reinsten Margaux jenseits des transzendenten Namensgebers der Appellation. Es ist das Verdienst von Philippe Delfaut, der aus der diametralen stilistischen Opposition von Palmer zu Chateau Kirwan kam, inmitten der prominent besetzten dritten Adelsklasse in Margaux einen Wundergarten an aromatischer Präzision und märchenhafter Eleganz gedeihen zu lassen und so einer Welt, die schon voller Margaux's ist, doch noch etwas Neues und ganz Eigenständiges zu bieten.
Mit Kurt Tucholsky's "Es gibt tausend Arten von Lärm, aber nur eine wirkliche Stille" assoziiere ich Chateau Kirwan, der die vinophile Einladung zu innerer Einkehr und Besinnung auf das Wesensnotwendige ist.
Die 2020er Version des Pianissimoboliden Kirwan zeigt eine Frische und Klarheit und eine Extraktion à point, die das nach Aussen trägt, was Margaux im besten Fall ist: das Maßband der Eleganz.

"Couleur sombre, intense, vive et pourpre. Nez très aromatique, au fruité frais, pur et mûr. Délicat en entrée de bouche, savoureux et floral au milieu, avec de la présence, le vin s’étire en finale, parfumé, avec une touche de vivacité qui devrait se fondre à l’élevage. Longueur normale et sans angle tannique. Assemblage : 51 % cabernet sauvignon, 28 % merlot, 14 % cabernet franc, 7 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool : 14 ° - pH : 3,64. Rendement : 33 hl/ha."

"Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Extremely appealing nose with very juicy fruit, ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, mulberries and plums, hints of black cherries, in the background. juicy plums and sweet elderberries. In the background elegant spiciness, hints of vanilla and toasting aroma, subtle oak. On the palate very elegant with juicy fruit, ripe tannins, excellent freshness and convincing length. A wonderful and well balanced wine."

"The deep purple 2020 Château Kirwan offers a rocking bouquet of jammy blackberries, blueberries, violets, cedary oak, and sappy flowers. Playing in the medium to full-bodied, rich, concentrated end of the spectrum, on the palate it shows the more focused and elegant style of the vintage, with wonderful tannins and impressive purity of fruit. This is another strong showing by Château Kirwan that will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have more than two decades of longevity."

"The 2020 Kirwan, cropped at 33hl/ha and tank-fed via gravity, undergoes an 18- to 22-month élevage. It offers ripe black currant and raspberry coulis scents on the nose, violets and citrus peel emerging with time. There is a seductiveness to these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, ripe entry that disguises the backbone, a very silky texture and traces of tobacco and graphite furnishing the opulent finish. One of the more luxuriant Margaux 2020s."

"Sehr präzises und definiertes Bouquet, das auch sehr viel Finesse transportiert. Einladende blumige und fruchtige Noten. Minze, Iris und Himbeernoten treten deutlich hervor. Finesse und Präzision sind auch am Gaumen die Stichwörter. Der Wein ist vollmundig und dabei mit kräftigen und feinen Tanninen ausgestattet. Seine lebendige Struktur sorgt für die nötige Frische. Ein Kirwan von seltener und großer Finesse."
