"This lacks a little vigour and lift on the nose with faint aromas of cigar box and wild hedgerow. The palate is much better with good extraction, quite focused with good acidity and definition. Well-integrated new oak, expressive with a ripe, fairly tannic raspberry and tobacco finish with a hint of graphite. Gets better as it goes along, with an attractive, pert finish."

"A sleeper of the vintage, Cantemerle's 2001 offers up an opaque ruby color as well as a sweet perfume of acacia flowers interwoven with blackberries, cassis, and subtle new oak. Possessing a rich texture, ripe fruit, lovely elegance, fine balance, and nicely integrated acidity and tannin, it should be drinkable early in life. "
