"Readers looking for an exuberant, nearly flamboyant, exceptionally well-made St.-Emilion should check out this effort from the Garcin family, which has done such a fabulous job with their Graves, Haut-Bergey, and Pomerol, Clos l’Eglise. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a beautifully situated vineyard near Troplong Mondot and Trottevielle, this cuvee reveals terrific fruit on the attack, mid-palate and finish. Abundant cassis and black cherry characteristics are presented in a juicy, savory, broadly textured style. The vintage’s freshness, precision and zesty acids give uplift to a big, opulent, fleshy wine. Consume it over the next decade or more."

"Brightly coloured wine. Beautifully fresh and refined nose of ripe fruit and spice - with a subtly southern character. Velvelty and dense on the palate with wonderfully coated tannins. Utterly delicious, sappy, multi-layered and long finish. This Barde Haut is the compelling result of the cru´s powerful character and skilful dedicated work."

"A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The Barde-Haut 2010 has a ripe nose of mulberry, blackberry and cassis with a touch of crushed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with a lot of very ripe Merlot, fleshy sweet fruit that is lacking just a little freshness and tension towards the finish. This was a very late malolactic that means the sulphur is denuding brightness a little at this stage, hence my plus sign. God knows how it tasted like to those critics who sampled it in early March."
